Digitally merged image of six WSU students
PULLMAN – “Reinterpreting Reality,” the first ever, regional, all women’s interstate art exhibition, will present work of over 100 artists at six venues in Pullman, and Moscow, Idaho during March, 2009.
Now in its 5th year, “Reinterpreting Reality” was originally conceived by WSU’s Women’s Resource Center with support from YWCA and the Coalition for Women Students.
“We wanted to include and showcase any WSU woman with art in her soul,” say co-organizers Kim Barrett and Debi Robinson-Smith. “This year we invited women from eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. The response has been amazing!”
Jerry McCollum, Coordinator of Arts & Culture at WSU, helped Barrett and Robinson-Smith bring together the regional artists into a coherent show. “We have very talented and active women artists on both sides of the border here in the Palouse,” says McCollum. “We wanted to showcase their work in an extended exhibition that expresses their unity as well as their diversity.”
McCollum graphically symbolized “Reinterpreting Reality” by digitally merging the images of six WSU students into a virtual multicultural woman. The resulting image and YouTube video has been viewed online hundreds of times.
Curators for the individual venues include Kathleen Burns (208-883-7036), Kary Lee (509-432-3819), Laurel Macdonald (208-936-9496), Jerry McCollum (509-335-2313), Debi Robinson-Smith (509-335-2572), and Gerri Sayler (208-883-8321).
