Ribbon cutting set for renovated Compton Union Building

PULLMAN – The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renovated Compton Union Building on the Pullman campus of WSU will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 5.

The building, located on the Glenn Terrell Mall at the heart of campus, has been closed since May 2006 to allow for a total renovation. The $86 million project is partially funded through a student fee approved through a student referendum.

Those participating in the ceremony are expected to include WSU President Elson S. Floyd; WSU Board of Regents Chair Francoix Forgette; Brandon Scheller, president of the Associated Students of WSU; Jessica Moore, president of the Graduate and Professional Students Association; and Wilson Compton Chase-Lansdale, grandson of Wilson M. Compton, who served as president of Washington State College from 1945 to 1951 and for whom the building is named.

Refreshments will be served and tours will be offered following the ceremony. Free parking will be available in the Smith Center parking garage from 3 p.m. to midnight.
