Blood donation drive raises awareness

Students, staff and faculty steadily trickled into the Student Recreation Center Wednesday for the Inland Northwest Blood Center’s Vein Drain blood donation event.

Around 50 blood donors were expected at the event, which ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We’re doing this drive more for awareness,” said Erin Krestian, a recruitment coordinator for INBC.  As the holidays grow nearer, travelers grow more plentiful, meaning more injuries and a greater need for blood donations, she said.

WSU was the second stop on the Palouse region’s inaugural Vein Drain event.  INBC staff collected donations at the University of Idaho Monday and Tuesday.

INBC has served the Northwest for more than 60 years, specializing in blood transfusion and transplantation services. All blood donations are tested and then redistributed to local hospitals throughout the northwest.
