VANCOUVER – Two new art exhibits will be displayed at Washington State University Vancouver galleries beginning in October. Nicole Cipriano’s collection of photographs will be displayed in the Engineering Life Sciences gallery Oct. 11 to Nov. 20 and a selection of works from artist Deanne Belinoff will be on display in the Student Services gallery Oct. 6 to Nov. 28.
Belinoff combines plants and flowers, wax, pigment and graphite to inspire her work. Her exhibit combines a large installation of small encaustic pieces and a selection of other pieces including monotypes and mixed media work. Belinoff received her bachelor’s degree from California State Long Beach, and during her extensive career has won numerous grants and awards, including two NEA fellowships and a California Arts Council grant.
Cipriano’s collection features a series of assemblages on canvas. First, the artist creates images using relief printmaking or the monotype process to create collographs. The images are printed on unprimed canvas, and then solid-colored squares and ornamental squares are carefully assembled together and sewn to complete the artist’s interpretation of creative expression.
A native of Portland, Ore., Cipriano received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon. She has continued her studies at Portland Community College, Pacific Northwest College of Art, Oregon College of Arts and Crafts and Portland State University. Currently, Cipriano runs her own printmaking facility, Studio Ex Machina, where she produces her unique prints and silk screens her own line of printed fabrics. She works at Collage Art in Portland and teaches printmaking workshops to beginning printmakers.
Entry to campus exhibits is free; however payment for parking is required Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Parking is available at parking meters or in the blue lot for $2.
WSU Vancouver galleries are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
