Applications will be available Feb. 1 for the 2006-2007 Student Regent position.
The Student Regent, the highest appointed position a student can hold while enrolled at WSU, is a representative of the WSU student body and has full voting rights and privileges on the Board of Regents.
The Student Regent is involved with the student government on all WSU campuses and works to foster relationships with key living groups and large student organizations in the WSU community.
Applicants must have a minimum 2.25 grade point average, a general knowledge of the Washington state legislative process, a basic understanding of the function of the Board of Regents, and a desire to represent all WSU students.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee and those students selected will be notified for an interview. Following the interview process, three students will be selected to travel to Olympia to meet with Gov. Christine Gregoire. Gregoire will then recommend one applicant for approval by the Washington State Senate.
Justin Leighton, the current Student Regent, said the position is a very valuable learning experience.
“I have been involved since the first week as a WSU student and serving on the WSU Board of Regents is a great capstone of four years of service to the students, university and the community,” Leighton said.
For distance degree program students and students who attend a branch campuses, applications can be downloaded from www.aswsu.org. Applications may be submitted to campus student government offices or faxed to ASWSU Pullman at (509) 335-4927.
Applications are due Friday, March 10, at noon to the ASWSU office.
