Professor Dwayne Mack will make a presentation titled “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around: Berea College’s Participation in the Selma to Montgomery March” at the WSU Pullman campus.
The presentation will take place Monday, Feb. 27 from 12:10-1 p.m. in the Smith Center for Undergraduate Education room 518.
“I hope attendees will learn about a period in the history of our great nation when there was a liberal consensus,” said Mack. “A period when white, black, brown and other people came together for a righteous and moral cause.”
Mack, whose research interests include the civil rights movement and the impact of the Cold War on African American entertainers, received his doctorate in history at WSU in 2002 and holds a tenure-track position at Berea College, Berea, Ky.
Regarding the importance of talks such as his, Mack said, “there is always a need to publicly honor those who made sacrifices–sacrifices that opened doors for women, blacks, Asians, Chicanos, Native Americans and others.”
