Union contract revote slated; AFL-CIO to oversee

A revote of the proposed contract between the Washington Federation of State Employee bargaining units and Washington State University began Wednesday, Oct. 20, in Spokane and selected locations. However, other locations — including WSU Pullman — will vote today, Thursday, Oct. 21.

Times and voting poll locations announced by the WFSE (as of 10 a.m. Wednesday) include:

* WSU Pullman — 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Holiday Inn Express, SE 1190 Bishop Boulevard in Pullman. The Washington State Labor Council, a fellow representative of the AFL-CIO, will oversee the revote and count the ballots.

* WSU Spokane and the Intercollegiate College of Nursing — 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, in Room 148 Intercollegiate College of Nursing.

* Other locations — “Voting at WSU locations outside Pullman and Spokane will take place either Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the location,” according to the WFSE website. “These times and dates will be coordinated with staff at those locations.”

The vote count in Pullman will take place immediately following the conclusion of balloting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday in Express. The vote count will be open to the public and the press.

Ratification of the contract requires a majority vote of those individuals who participate in the election. If approved, the new contract will go into effect July 1, 2005. A copy of the proposed contract can be viewed at http://archive.wfse.org/local1066/wsucontract.pdf
