PULLMAN, Wash. — Ranna Daud, a Washington State University senior majoring in
sport management, is the first WSU student to receive the National Collegiate Athletic Association Ethnic Minority Postgraduate Scholarship.
Daud, who is Arab-American, is one of 13 students nationwide awarded this scholarship from the NCAA.
She will receive $6,000 for her first year of graduate studies. According to Arthur Hightower, NCAA assistant director of professional development, since the scholarship was established in 1988, no other WSU student has received that award.
Born and raised in Pullman, Daud graduated from Pullman High School in 2000. She will graduate from WSU in May, complete her sport management internship during the summer of 2004 and then attend graduate school.
Daud plans to work in sport administration, focusing on sport and diversity. She now serves as the director of multicultural student affairs for the Associated Students of WSU.
The scholarship is awarded to students who have performed with distinction as undergraduates and who intend to pursue a career in athletics.
