‘Take Back the Night’ Returns to WSU Campus Oct. 23

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s Coalition for Women Students will host the 20th annual Take Back the Night program Oct. 23 as part of the university’s Week Without Violence, Oct. 20-24.

The program will begin with a 7 p.m. rally in front of Todd Hall followed by a march from Glenn Terrell Mall to the fire pit at The Triangle, across from Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. A short public gathering will follow.

Take Back the Night is an all-campus event that involves students, staff and faculty, as well as community members. More than 800 participants have taken part in the rally and march in previous years.

The YWCA Clothesline Project, the Sexual Information and Referral Center/Cougars Encouraging Alcohol Knowledge (SIRC/CEAK) Bodies of Violence Project, the Men’s Only White Ribbon Project and the Red Balloon Project will take place during the week. Films, performances and programs sponsored by a number of campus organizations are also scheduled.

The week is a cooperative effort intended to enhance awareness on issues that pertain to violence against women and motivate all members of the community to take a stand against violence, sexual abuse and sexual assault.
