MLK Arts, Essay Contest Awards Banquet Set for Jan. 31

PULLMAN, Wash. — The seventh annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Arts and Essay Contest Awards Banquet is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 31 in Washington State University’s Campus Compton Union Building Cascade Room 127.

The banquet, sponsored by the WSU YWCA, marks the completion of the 2002-2003 Dr. Martin Luther King Arts and Essay Contest, and will honor all those who have made the contest a success again this year, said Rahwa Habte, one of event’s organizers. Those expected at the banquet include contest participants (grades kindergarten through high school,) area teachers, WSU MLK Scholars and area business leaders.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Arts and Essay Contest is designed to celebrate the life and teachings of Dr. King, one of the world’s greatest advocates of non-violent social change and the youngest man ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

The public in paying tribute to Dr. King and to those in our own community who are helping to keep his legacy alive and turn his vision into a reality, Habte said.
