WSU English and Fine Arts Departments Team Up for Writing Series

PULLMAN, Wash. — For the first time, the English and fine arts departments will co-sponsor and host the annual Washington State University Visiting Writer Series. Peter Chilson, WSU assistant professor of English, will open the season at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 25 in the Fine Arts Museum gallery.

Chilson’s essays and short stories have been published in The American Scholar, The North American Review, Creative Non-Fiction and Audobon. His book, “Riding the Demon: On the Road in West Africa,” won the Associated Writing Programs Award in Creative Non-fiction. Presently Chilson is at work on a novel called “Drinking Tea With Soldiers,” set in West Africa.

The series continues with Al Habegger, author of “My Wars are Laid Away in Books: The Life of Emily Dickinson,” who will read at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 16, in the Fine Arts Museum gallery. Poet Jo McDougall will follow at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 6, also in the Museum gallery.
