Media Advisory: Gov. Locke, Other State Leaders to Honor Smiths

SEATTLE, Wash. — Washington State University President Samuel Smith and
his wife Pat will be recognized for their 15 years of service at a formal tribute
held in the Westin Hotel on May 19. Gov. Gary Locke will be the featured
speaker at the dinner event.

The event, held in conjunction with the spring WSU Foundation Board of
Trustees meeting, will include the unveiling of a new endowment named for the
Smiths. The Sam and Pat Smith Teaching and Learning Endowment will
support curriculum innovations, student and teacher assessment, and other
programs aimed at improving teaching and student learning at all of WSU’s
campuses and extended learning programs.

Dinner reservations are fully booked. Reporters wishing to attend for the

The evening’s program is expected to begin at approximately 9 p.m.
