WSU-CBC Presidents Hold News Conference Thursday, Jan. 27

Washington State University President Sam Smith and CBC President Lee
Thornton will share the podium Thursday at Pasco at a news conference
announcing a newly established faculty position for their two institutions.

In their announcement to Tri-Cities media, the presidents will outline both a
new approach to sharing faculty by the two institutions and their continuing
work to articulate joint enrollment programs at CBC and WSU Tri-Cities.
Journalists’ questions to both presidents will also be a major portion of the
agenda.

The news conference will begin at 2 p.m. in the Board Room of Columbia Basin
College’s Administration Building.

Smith, whose 15-year tenure at WSU has been highlighted by the
establishment of branch campuses across the state, is retiring this summer. He
currently serves as chair of the National Association of State Universities and
Land-Grant Colleges Board of Directors and is a member of the Kellogg
Commission on the Future of the State and Land-Grant Universities.
