SPOKANE, Wash. — The Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education/
Washington State University College of Nursing has announced the
appointment of Dolores “Loly” Reyes-Gonzalez to the position of outreach
services coordinator for the Children’s Transition Clinic located at the YWCA.
The ICNE/WSU College of Nursing, in partnership with the Community Health
Association of Spokane, operates the clinic at the YWCA location. The clinic
provides quality health care services for Spokane’s low-income, under-served,
uninsured families who have limited health care resource options.
Reyes-Gonzalez comes to Spokane after serving 15 years in the United States
Air Force and retiring as a major in 1999. She served at hospitals and medical
centers in San Antonio, Texas, Miami, Florida, Fairchild Air Force Base in
Spokane, and Geilenkirchen NATO Air Force Base in Western Germany.
“Loly brings a broad perspective on nursing practices and a host of vital
management skills to this unique community clinic setting,” said Dorothy
Detlor, dean of the ICNE/WSU College of Nursing.
Since opening in September 1998, the clinic has treated more than 2,500
children and their families who otherwise would have gone without essential
medical care.
“Children and their families can depend on the staff and services at the clinic
to provide a permanent connection to necessary, consistent, caring and
quality health care,” said Reyes-Gonzalez.
As outreach services coordinator, Reyes-Gonzalez is responsible for the
day-to-day operations of the clinic and supervision and management of the
faculty and nursing students from the ICNE/WSU College of Nursing.
“Promoting partnerships and collaborative initiatives throughout the
community in support of the services and supplies the clinic provides is a
primary external focus,” said Reyes-Gonzalez.
The ICNE/WSU College of Nursing is based in Spokane, with multiple sites
throughout Washington state, and is currently educating 525 graduate and
undergraduate students for professional nursing careers. The college, a
progressive leader in the field of nursing education and research, is the
nation’s first, oldest and most comprehensive nursing education consortium.
Founded in 1968, the college offers baccalaureate, graduate and professional
development course work to nursing students enrolled through its four
consortium partners: Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga University,
