Dad’s Weekend Activities Planned for Oct. 29-31

PULLMAN, Wash. — A full array of activities is planned at Washington State University
this weekend as the Cougars celebrate Dad’s Weekend Oct. 29-31.
Jars of Clay, a Grammy Award-winning Christian rock band, will play Beasley Performing
Arts Coliseum at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $17.50 in advance, or $20 at the door.
Saturday from 7:45-9:30 p.m., the Dad’s Weekend Breakfast is planned in the Compton Union
Building Ballroom. The Crimson Company show choir will provide a ‘good morning’ greeting. The
breakfast also includes comments by WSU President Samuel Smith; ASWSU President Steve
Wymer; football Coach Mike Price; new women’s basketball Coach Jenny Przekwas; and Glenn
Johnson, “Voice of the Cougars.” The Dad’s Weekend Committee will name its “Dad of the
Year.” Tickets are $8.50 and are on sale at the CUB west entrance 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Tickets are not sold at the door.
The Cougar football team will battle the Oregon State Beavers in Martin Stadium at 1 p.m.
Saturday. Tickets are available at 509/335-9626.
Several other free sports events are scheduled for the weekend. The women’s rugby team
will play at the Grimes Way Field at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Cougar Basketball Bash, featuring
men’s and women’s varsity teams, will run 11 a.m.- noon at Beasley Coliseum. The men’s
volleyball team will play Simon Fraser University at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Physical Education
Building, Room 146. The men’s lacrosse team will play Whitman College at the South Fairway
Field at 10 a.m. Sunday. Also on Sunday, the men’s soccer team will play Walla Walla College at
1 p.m. at the South Fairway Field.
WAZZU Wheels, a classic and racing car show, begins Friday during the noon hour with a
preview of the Saturday exhibit set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Glenn Terrell Mall. The noon exhibit
on Friday will feature a sneak peek of a custom car critics call part jet fighter and part Lemans
racecar. The “Ground Fighter” features a Lexus Quad-Cam, 241 cubic inch V-8 engine and a
composite body topped with the canopy of an F-16 fighter jet.
The “Ground Fighter” is being brought to the car show by sponsors Chipman and Taylor
Chevrolet-Oldsmobile and the Bank of Pullman. The car will be on display on the Glenn Terrell
Mall 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and from 1:30-6 p.m. at the Chipman and Taylor auto dealership in Pullman.
An 8 p.m. Saturday Comedy Concert at Beasley Coliseum will feature comedians Ross Shafer
and George Miller. Tickets, $10, are available at 800/325-SEAT.
The Saturday Night Swing Fling runs 9 p.m.- midnight in the CUB’s Butch’s Den. The free
dance will feature music of the modern dance era.
