Roe v. Wade Attorney to Speak at WSU

PULLMAN, Wash.–Sarah Weddington, who argued the landmark Supreme Court case on abortion rights, will speak at Washington State University Friday, Oct. 24, at noon in Room 212 of the Compton Union Building.
In the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, the Court ruled the U.S. Constitution guarantees to women the choice of whether to continue or terminate a pregnancy. For her work on that case, Weddington has received numerous awards, including the Planned Parenthood of America’s Margaret Sanger Award.
Weddington currently serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas. In 1972, she was the first woman elected from Austin to the Texas House of Representatives. From 1978-81 she was an assistant to President Jimmy Carter and directed the Carter administration’s work on women’s issues.
Her Friday presentation, “Roe v. Wade: The Inside Story,” is open to the public and sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program, Political Science Department, YWCA, Women’s Resource Center, NOW Pullman Chapter, Honors Program, Sociology Department and Idaho Women Lawyers.
