PULLMAN, Wash. — Dennis L. Haarsager, associate vice president and general manager of Educational Telecommunications and Technology at Washington State University, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Public Broadcasting Service.
Haarsager is one of four new professional members and four lay members elected for three-year terms beginning in October. The board is the governing body of PBS, a non-profit corporation headquartered in Alexandria, Va., funded primarily by dues and program fees paid by member stations.
He is also a member of the boards and past president of both the Washington Public Broadcasting Association and West Coast Public Radio, and is a member of the State of Washington Information Service Board K-20 Project Technical Working Group.
Coming to WSU in 1978 as general manager of KWSU Radio-Television Services, Haarsager was state coordinator for Idaho Public Broadcasting from 1975-78 and director of administration for South Dakota Public Broadcasting from 1972-75.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in government from South Dakota State University and elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha honoraries. Haarsager has taught media management at WSU and the University of Idaho.
