WSU faculty, students help orphans in China

Speech therapy is a relatively new field in China. In fact, the first department of speech therapy opened at a major university there in 1988. So, when a group of nine WSU students and three faculty members from the department of speech and hearing sciences traveled there for 10 days over spring break to train orphanage workers, they were pioneers.

Howard Dean to give annual Vancouver lecture

Former Vermont governor, 2004 Democratic presidential candidate and new Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Skyview High School for WSU Vancouver’s Third Annual Public Policy and Public Service Distinguished Lecture Series. A reception will follow in the Student Center. Dean’s comments will address public affairs and American democracy. Wall Street Journal editor to speak at WSU

Bryan Gruley, a senior editor in the Washington Bureau of the Wall Street Journal, will speak at Washington State University Friday, Oct. 22 from 1:10-2 p.m. in the new Murrow Communication Addition Auditorium, Room 21. Gruley is a member of the WSJ’s Sept. 11 Pulitzer Prize-winning team. In April 2003, he visited the WSU campus to accept the Edward R. Murrow Award for Distinguished Achievement in Journalism on behalf of the family of slain WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl.The event is free and open to all university students, faculty and staff, and the community.
