Authors to brief Congress on reading

PULLMAN—  Stephen B Krucer, associate professor of language and literacy education at WSU, is a co-author in the new book, What Research REALLY Says about Teaching and Learning to Read, published by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

 

Krucer contributed a chapter on the nature of the reading process and also edited the book, which is set for release in October. Kucer is a College of Education faculty member at WSU Vancouver.

Telling a joke? Better make it a good one!

PULLMAN – Offering up a joke – at least one of that isn’t politically incorrect or “off-color” – is rarely considered particularly risky socially. But a recent study at WSU suggests jokesters do risk receiving a surprising amount of derision from their audience – particularly when it’s made up of those they love most.

Philosopher, linguist gives Potter Memorial Lecture

Noam Chomsky, MIT professor of linguistics and philosophy, will give the 2005 Potter Memorial Lecture at Washington State University at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, in the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.
