VANCOUVER – The Sherry Vaughan Distinguished Lecture Series welcomes Jonah Edelman, CEO of Stand for Children, to WSU Vancouver at 7 p.m. April 21 in the Administration building, room 110.

Edelman’s address, “Despite the Downturn: How Can We Position Schools for Progress?” will focus on Stand for Children’s efforts to support Washington public schools.

Stand for Children is committed to achieving statewide policy changes for children and education. It has affiliates in Oregon, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Washington and will open a Colorado affiliate in April. WSU grant will help local middle school students

RICHLAND – The Early Outreach Program based at WSU Tri-Cities worked with 17 school districts and 19 community partners in the region to receive $23.2 million in the form of two six-year competitive grants from the U.S. Department of Education under the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP).
 
GEAR UP helps middle school students receive guidance and assistance to prepare for and pursue a college education.
