Advanced Copilot AI services now available for faculty, staff

Fully integrated Microsoft 365 Copilot is now available for an additional licensing fee to WSU faculty and staff.

The optional upgrade provides greater direct integration with Microsoft applications such as Excel, Teams, Word, and Outlook than the standard Copilot Chat service all students, faculty and staff currently receive as part of the university’s enterprise account.

With the paid upgrade, faculty and staff can:

  • Summarize meetings and email threads
  • Draft, revise, and refine documents
  • Analyze and visualize complex data
  • Create presentations from meeting notes
  • And more…

The following individuals are eligible to receive a WSU Microsoft 365 Copilot license through departmental purchase:

  • Faculty
  • Administrative professional employees
  • Civil service employees
  • Affiliates and courtesy employees

At this time, students and hourly employees are not eligible for this paid service. All WSU users continue to have free access to Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. This separate, browser-based tool does not integrate with Microsoft 365 applications but remains a valuable resource for general AI assistance.

Departments may request licenses for eligible faculty and staff by following the Microsoft 365 Copilot purchasing process. As part of this process, faculty and staff are required to attest for required training completion.

Information Technology Services (ITS), in partnership with departments and local IT support teams, will assist in verifying training completion and finalizing license requests.

All WSU users are reminded to review the WSU Cloud Acceptable Use Matrix to ensure appropriate data use with Microsoft 365 Copilot. Users are also encouraged to review additional guidance on the responsible use of generative AI tools at WSU.
