Four weeks into the job, President Elizabeth Cantwell has developed a transition initiative designed to gain insights, deepen understanding, and cultivate relationships across the Washington State University system.
The framework for this initiative, called the Cougar Compass; an overview of her 100-day plan; and an online form to share insights on the institution are now available on a website dedicated to the presidential transition.
The first 100 days
During her first 100 days in office (April 1 – July 9), President Cantwell is focusing on understanding the university’s operations, history, and developing relationships with leaders across the Cougar community. Her priority areas encompass every facet of the institution – from the academic enterprise to systemwide operations – and will lay the groundwork for continued engagement throughout her presidency.
“This period of listening and learning is just the beginning of our journey together,” said Cantwell. “I’m energized by what I’ve heard and seen across the WSU system and am eager to hear from members of our community. Together, let’s build an even stronger future for our institution and the entire state of Washington.”
Ways to engage
This fall, the president will host a series of focused listening sessions with communities across the system to identify the university’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities. The input provided during these sessions will inform an enhanced strategic vision for the institution moving forward.
While the schedule for these sessions is still in development, an online form to share insights is open and will be accepting submissions through the end of the fall semester. This form is available for those who may be unable to attend the sessions or prefer to provide their feedback in writing.
A summary of the input received will be shared with the university community at the conclusion of the listening sessions, and regular updates on the president’s activities will be provided as the transition progresses.
