College of Education names outstanding faculty and staff

Washington State University’s College of Education recognized outstanding faculty and staff at its semi-annual all-college meeting on May 4, held virtually. Awards are:

Faculty Research: Anne Cox

Anne Cox is an associate professor who has been with the College of Education since 2013. She teaches courses in sports and exercise psychology. In addition, Anne is a member of the Prevention Science Graduate Faculty on the WSU campus and is also actively engaged in implementing various mindfulness initiatives on campus.

Through her research, Cox is currently focused on examining how aspects of body image impact physical activity behaviors in both adolescents and adults and the effects of educational programs and physical activity on body image. Cox has expertise in yoga and uses this knowledge to understand the connection between yoga and body image.

Faculty Teaching: Joy Egbert and Judy Schultz

Joy Egbert is a professor of English Language Learners (ELL) and Educational Technology. She teaches courses in the English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement program, the ESL course in the elementary teacher education program as well as various graduate level courses. Egbert has research interests in the field of learning environments as they involve English language learners and technology.

Judy Shultz is a clinical associate professor of kinesiology on the WSU Pullman campus. She has taught classes such as Motor Development, Sports Psychology and Sports Philosophy. Shultz has research interests in understanding the effects of kinesiology lab projects on high school STEM engagement, higher educational instructional improvement, movement planning disorders, and psychomotor behavior. Shultz was recently given a two-year research grant.

Faculty Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Fran Watson

Fran Watson is a clinical assistant professor for cultural studies and social thought in education. Watson works in the area of environmental suitability, equity and well-being. She works with preservice teachers in elementary and secondary education focusing on garden education, socio-ecological justice and community partnerships. Her research area focuses on schools and community gardens, which is inspired by place-based education.

Staff Service: Jennifer Gallagher and Darryl Craig

Jennifer Gallagher is an academic coordinator at WSU Vancouver and has made significant contributions to the educational leadership program across the WSU system, coordinating schedules, enrollments, and communications. Additionally, she helps onboard new career- and tenure-track faculty with regard to program and degree requirements. She has also earned her WSU Vancouver BaCE (Building a Culture of Equity) certificate in Accessibility and Universal Design, allowing her to better serve our blind and deaf students.

Darryl Craig works in the Undergraduate Student Services office on the WSU Pullman campus advising kinesiology students. Prior to coming to WSU, he was an advisor at both Illinois State University and Purdue University. He holds professional memberships with the National Academic Advising Association and WSU Academic Advising Association. He received his bachelor’s degree in human kinetics from the University of British Columbia and his master in teaching with an emphasis in physical education from Winthrop University.
