Plan ahead for traffic around 5:30 p.m. game

A men’s basketball rematch between perennial Pac-10 powerhouse University of Arizona and the WSU Cougars, who upset the Wildcats last month in Tucson, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, in Beasley Coliseum.

The early starting time means that many fans will be coming onto campus at the same time the usual late afternoon campus employee/student exodus is under way. That could create traffic and parking issues, which transportation officials are hoping to ease with a bit of early planning by faculty, staff and students.

One option, of course, is for people to stay on campus and attend the game. But, for those who don’t, transportation officials urge them to use alternate routes to leave campus rather than Stadium Way. Pullman Transit will be offering its regular service; students, faculty and staff may ride the bus free of charge simply by showing their CougarCard.

“We’re expecting a great crowd for this event,” said Bridgette Johnson, field operations manager for parking, transportation and Visitor Center. “Some advance planning should go a long way toward making this game time work out well for everyone.”
