PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University College of Liberal Arts alumnus Skyler “Sky” Smick of Brush Prairie was awarded the WSU Foundation’s Outstanding Service Award during the Oct. 4 homecoming football game at Martin Stadium.
The WSU Foundation honored Smick as a driving force for Cougar Athletics in the Vancouver/Portland area for more than 20 years. Through his dedication as an ambassador of Cougar Athletics, support for WSU Athletics has grown significantly in the Vancouver/Portland area.
Among his many volunteer activities, Smick has organized the Columbia River Cougar Golf Classic for more than 12 years, helping to raise more than $250,000 in donations to the unrestricted student-athlete scholarship fund at WSU. Smick also created, organizes and “staffs” the Vancouver CougAire flights to Pullman for all home football games.
“Sky’s commitment to Washington State University and Cougar Athletics has been second to none,” said WSU Foundation President Richard Frisch. “His efforts have been invaluable in maintaining an active Cougar presence in the Portland/Vancouver area.”
The WSU Foundation Outstanding Service Awards are given annually as a public testimonial to individuals who have made outstanding singular or collective contributions in service to the WSU Foundation and WSU.
Also receiving Outstanding Service Awards in 2003 are Philip Abelson of Washington D.C.; Doris Cleveland of Colbert; Sandra Kay Fryer of Orinda, Calif.; and Floyd and Judy Rogers of Renton.
