Cougar Monday Offers In-depth Look at WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. — Cougar Monday, Washington State University’s program that offers
high school seniors and their families a chance to take an in-depth look at the university, is set
for three days during the 1999 fall semester.
The WSU Office of Admissions has set the visitation dates for Oct. 11 and 18 and Nov. 1.
Each program includes an activity-filled day for prospective Cougars.
Cougar Monday participants will check in at the Compton Union Building’s Carey Ballroom,
where a department fair begins at 8:45 a.m.
Later, they will attend a university class. Students will also participate in “A day in the Life
of a Cougar” workshops while parents attend a panel discussion with representatives from
admissions, counseling services, public safety, residence life and financial aid. Lunch, in one of
the dining centers, follows.
Afternoon campus walking tours will include visits to a residence hall and a Greek chapter
house.
“This program is planned to meet specific needs that students are looking for, giving them a
firm perspective to see if this (WSU) is where they want to come,” said Arlene Parkay, Visitation
Program coordinator for admissions. “I have heard from a number of students that this (Cougar
Monday) was a deciding factor in choosing to attend WSU.”
