WSU Veterinary Hospital Begins Special Saturday Hours

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine teaching hospital will open its doors to a new Saturday small animal wellness service beginning Jan. 30.
By appointment only, the new service will operate from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday. All the college’s veterinary services, including the Saturday clinic, are open to the public and can be reached by calling 509/335-0711.
Two WSU faculty veterinarians will staff the Saturday service assisted by WSU veterinary students. The WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital remains open around the clock seven days a week for emergency services.
“The new Saturday hours are intended to provide an efficient service to those clients who find a typical weekday schedule inconvenient to meet their pet’s routine veterinary care needs,” said Warwick Bayly, professor and interim chair of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, the department that houses the teaching hospital. “Our Saturday service will provide routine care including vaccinations, physical examinations and examination of immediate but not emergent conditions that can be seen on appointment.”
Bayly explained that by making an appointment instead of just walking in, clients will save the additional charge of $29 assessed to emergency cases and on-demand service.
The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine is the fifth oldest veterinary college in the nation and is celebrating its centennial year in 1999.
