Men’s rowing practices near WSU Tri-Cities

RICHLAND — The WSU Men’s Crew is practicing its rowing techniques with eight- and four-man boats on the Columbia River near the WSU Tri-Cities campus through Wednesday morning, March 12.

The group of about 40 students and six coaches will stage an exhibition race at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11. The race ends at Howard Amon Park in Richland. Community members can meet-and-greet the crew team starting at 3:45 p.m. at the park.

Rowing practice is slated from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, with the boats putting in near the pump house on the shoreline below the WSU Tri-Cities campus, 2710 University Drive. This is along the bike path at the end of Sprout Road. The team leaves the Tri-Cities at about noon Wednesday.

March 10-14 is spring break for WSU students, allowing the crew team to take its practice on the road. The team members include Andrew Winters, whose parents are Maggie and John Winters of Richland. Coach Arthur Ericsson is at 509-863-5913.

WSU Tri-Cities is the host for the team, with donations and support from the Winters family, local WSU alumni, and area businesses, including Roundtable Pizza owner Chuck Stack.

Men’s Crew is the oldest sport club at WSU. See www.row.wsu.edu or www.CougarCrew.com for more details on the club.
