PULLMAN, Wash. — Career Services at Washington State University has started a job shadow program that allows WSU students the opportunity to shadow an individual as he/she performs workplace tasks.
It allows students to experience the work environment and better understand the types of skills and knowledge that is needed for specific occupations. It is also a chance for WSU students to explore a potential career.
The benefits WSU students can gain from participating in a job shadow program include experience in “real life” learning situations, exposure to career information unavailable in the classroom, an opportunity to apply classroom learning, bridging the gap between school and their careers and reinforcement of career decisions. It also teaches students about the community in which they live and allows the community to observe students in action.
