Washington State University Regents Professor and Distinguished Professor of Power Engineering Anjan Bose has been elected an International Fellow of the United Kingdom-based Royal Academy of Engineering, one of the highest honors in the engineering profession.
A globally recognized expert in electric power systems, Bose has helped shape many of the technologies and analytical tools that underpin today’s electric grid. His work has advanced the operation, control, and reliability of large-scale power networks, including pioneering contributions to real-time power system simulation that transformed how grid operators are trained around the world.
Bose has played influential roles in shaping energy policy and power system reliability in a career that has spanned academia, industry and government service. He served as a senior advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and contributed to numerous National Academy of Engineering studies focused on energy and grid resilience.
At Washington State University, Bose has made lasting contributions through his commitment to research, education, and mentorship. He also served as the Director of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and as dean of the Voiland College of Engineering.
Bose’s accomplishments also have earned recognition from engineering organizations around the world. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, a founding member and former president of the Washington State Academy of Sciences, and a foreign fellow of both the Indian National Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Bose will be formally inducted into the Academy on Oct. 19, 2026.
