Faculty system-wide who are interested in teaching with writing rather than teaching writing are encouraged to apply for the spring WORD Fellows program offered by the Washington State University Writing Program.
“There is so much interest in learning professional skills to design more effective writing assignments and assessments that we are opening more seats in our spring WORD Fellows program,” said Lisa Johnson Shull, Writing Program assistant director and co-facilitator of WORD Fellows.
All clinical- and tenure-track faculty across the university who use writing in their curricula or want to integrate writing into their courses are encouraged to consider the program.
WORD Fellows will run from late January into April, with days and times for 12 weekly sessions to be set soon. WSU Pullman participants can attend in-person or online, and those at other campuses can join online.
WORD is the acronym for Writing Occurring Rhetorically in the Disciplines. WORD Fellows launched in 2021 and more than 40 faculty have completed the program.
A $750 stipend is payable to participants who attend all sessions and produce the program deliverable — a scaffolded writing assignment that can be used in a class.
Questions can be directed to Johnson Shull or fellow co-facilitator Brooklyn Walter, director of the Writing Center.
