For Summer Session 2020, qualifying Washington State University employees can now use their tuition waiver benefit for WSU Global Campus courses in addition to courses offered through the university’s five other campuses.

The decision to allow faculty and staff to use tuition waivers for Global Campus courses was made to make the employee education benefit more widely available while the state of Washington is observing Governor Inslee’s Stay at Home, Stay Healthy orders. The temporary policy only applies to the 2020 Summer Session.

The Summer Session tuition waiver benefit allows eligible WSU employees to take up to four credits for a $5 administration fee, plus any special course fees, laboratory fees, late registration charges, or late fee payment charges.

The benefit cannot be used for independent study courses, internships, tutorials, private lessons, or practicums. Courses associated with the online Master’s in Business Administration and Engineering and Technology Management programs, as well as 3-week Intersession courses held between Aug. 1 and Aug. 23, can also not be taken using the employee tuition waiver.

WSU employees can request to use their summer tuition benefit by emailing a completed Summer Educational Benefit Request Form to summer@wsu.edu beginning Monday, May 11, 2020. The form requires signatures from the employee’s department chair and WSU Human Resource Services.

If employees need assistance obtaining signatures while practicing social distancing, they can copy their supervisor or department chair on their email submission.

Completed forms will be held by the Summer Session office on the first day of class. Enrollment will then be processed based on availability of space in the course.

For more detailed information on allowed courses and employee eligibility, visit the Summer Educational Benefits page of the Business Policies and Procedures Manual. If you have questions about employee tuition staff waivers for Global Campus courses, email summer@wsu.edu or call the Global Campus registrar at 509-335-3979.
