Partnership offers International Business degree in Switzerland

Pullman – The Washington State University College of Business has unveiled its latest global initiative with partner institution University Centre Cesar Ritz in Brig, Switzerland.

Beginning in fall 2007, qualified Washington State University students will be able to complete upper division course requirements for a WSU major or minor in International Business during one semester of study in Europe.

Faculty from WSU and Cesar Ritz will teach courses to both WSU and Cesar Ritz students, with all instruction given in English. The fall semester is open for those desiring to receive a minor and spring semester is open to those wishing to earn a minor or a major. This new program is open to all WSU students who meet the minimum qualifications.

“We are very excited about this new program,” says Jerman Rose, director of the CB’s entrepreneurial and international initiatives. “It provides an opportunity for qualified non-Business majors from across the WSU system to enrich their learning experience and add breadth to their academic record.”

As part of its global initiative, this new program reflects the College’s continued commitment to develop globally competitive graduates. The new program will play a key role as the College strives to double the number of business students studying abroad. International programs in the College of Business have sent nearly 500 students to locations including Thailand, Italy, Chile, Switzerland, Spain, Malawi, Vietnam, and Norway since 2002.

“This is a great opportunity for students in the College of Business and from across the University to gain much needed international exposure and understanding,” says College of Business Dean Eric Spangenberg. “Every student should have the opportunity to participate in the life-changing experience of studying abroad. These kinds of opportunities dramatically broaden students’ perspectives by allowing them to experience multiple cultures living and working together to make a positive difference in our global community.”

The new program offered in Brig is one of many opportunities that College of Business students have to gain international learning experience. The College’s global initiative was developed with the help of dedicated faculty, alumni, and friends, and has seen significant strides in recent months.

Students who want to participate in the College’s study abroad programs should contact the International Business Institute at (509) 335-2180 or ibi@wsu.edu.
