WSU ‘Crimson Pride’ to Sweep Seattle Sept. 10 and 11

PULLMAN, Wash. — Football will be the prime focus this weekend as Washington State University prepares to line up against the Colorado Buffaloes at Qwest Field in Seattle this Saturday,  Sept. 11. But the Cougar’s west-side season-opener also will feature a variety of activities on both Friday and Saturday intended to showcase the university’s achievements and bring together Cougar alumni and friends.

Friday (Sept. 10) events include a WSU Board of Regents’ meeting, a “power breakfast” with local business leaders featuring Kerry Killinger, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Seattle-based Washington Mutual, the Bon-Macy’s Second Annual Future Cougars of Color Diversity Scholarship Luncheon, and a Cougar Spirit Rally downtown Seattle featuring the WSU Cougar Marching Band and Spirit Squad. As it did last year, this year’s marching band features 245 musicians, making it once again the largest ensemble in the university’s history.

On Saturday, three-hours of pre-game activities will precede the 12:30 p.m. football game which will be followed at 7:05 p.m. by Cougar Night at Safeco Field as the Seattle Mariners take on the Boston Red Sox.

“Having these activities in Seattle is vital to the university’s visibility in the important western Washington population center, home of so many of our students, alumni and friends,” WSU President V. Lane Rawlins said of this weekend’s events.

Specific WSU-sponsored events in Seattle this weekend include:

Under his leadership, the company has grown into a national financial services retailer and is the largest savings and loan in the United States.
