WSU Regents to hold regular meeting in Pullman Sept. 17, 18

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Board of Regents of Washington State University will hold a regularly scheduled meeting Sept. 17 and 18 on the WSU Pullman campus, Compton Union Building, Room 204, to consider action items, including a proposal to re-name the WSU College of Medical Science, a proposal to approve formation of a presidential search advisory committee, and a proposal to proceed with construction of a new academic building on the campus of WSU North Puget Sound at Everett.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m., Sept.17, with a meeting of the Regents’ Executive Committee, followed by consecutive meetings of the Regents’ Finance and Audit, Academic and Student Affairs, and External Affairs committees. Each committee session will convene immediately following the completion of the previous session. All four sessions are scheduled to conclude prior to 5 p.m.

The Regents will re-convene at the same location at 8 a.m., Sept. 18, to initially hear reports from the chair of the Board of Regents and WSU President Daniel J. Bernardo, before taking action on a proposed commendation honoring WSU’s late President Elson S. Floyd. The Regents will then hear additional reports from various campus organizations, including the WSU Foundation, the WSU Faculty Senate, Associated Students of WSU, Graduate and Professional Student Association, WSU Administrative Professional Advisory Council, and WSU Alumni Association.

The Regents are expected to take action on recommendations including:

  • A proposal to re-name the WSU College of Medical Science as the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.
  • A proposal to approve a Presidential Search Advisory Committee membership roster advanced by the Regents’ Ad Hoc Committee following the Sept. 10 special Board of Regents meeting, as well as approval of the delegation of authority to the Regents’ chair to recruit and invite potential members to serve on the committee.
  • Approval of the construction of a 95,000-square-foot teaching and office building at a budget not to exceed $64,563,000, which includes the previously approved amount of $10 million for design and pre-construction, as well as the approval of the delegation of authority to the president of the university or his designee to enter into any and all contracts necessary to complete the project, within the budgeted amount.

In addition to the above schedule, on Sept. 17, the Regents will be attending the WSU Foundation Awards Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. in the Compton Union Building Senior Ballroom and the WSU Foundation Volunteer Reception at 6 p.m. on the Terrell Library Roof.  On Friday, the Regents will attend the WSU Campus-Wide Campaign Celebration Lunch at 11:30 a.m. on the Terrell Mall, and the WSU Campaign Celebration event at 12:30 p.m., also on the Terrell Mall.
