PULLMAN, Wash.—Washington State University professor Jill McCluskey has been elected president of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA), a national association working to further knowledge about the economics of agriculture, rural communities and natural resources.
McCluskey, chair of graduate studies in the WSU School of Economic Sciences, is looking forward to serving the AAEA.
“The field of agricultural and applied economics is positioned to make an impact on some of the paramount issues of our time, including climate change and the environment, availability of long-term energy resources, feeding our growing world population, reducing obesity, and developing policies to assist international economic development,” she said. “I will work to offer products and services that improve the communication of our membership’s research findings and the corresponding policy implications. It will be a privilege to serve.”
McCluskey joined the faculty at WSU in 1998 after earning her doctorate at U.C. Berkeley and was promoted to full professor in 2007. She has taught industrial organization and microeconomic theory, with a research focus on the economics of food quality and labeling, firm incentives, and consumer perceptions and behavior. Her publications are widely cited and her work with graduate student advisees has resulted in national awards.
McCluskey’s term as president begins July 27, 2014, and runs through 2017.
