WSU students, employees encouraged to get flu shots now

vaccinationPULLMAN, Wash. – Flu season is nearly upon us, and WSU students and employees statewide are encouraged to get their flu vaccinations.

It takes about two weeks for your body to develop the antibodies that will protect you from flu virus, notes the WSU Health and Wellness Services. As a result, the Center for Disease Control recommends that people get their vaccines as early in the flu season as possible.

  • Pullman: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays through Oct. 27, at WSU Health and Wellness Services, Washington Building, ground floor entrance.
  • Spokane: Flu shot clinics were conducted for students Sept. 20 and 28. People who missed those clinics can obtain flu shots at most medical clinics and pharmacies.
  • Vancouver: students can make appointments for flu shots at the Student Wellness Center, and plans are being considered for a general clinic for the entire campus in conjunction with the nursing program, so watch for details.
  • Tri-Cities: Nursing students administered flu shots, checked blood pressure and blood sugar levels during a campus clinic Sept. 22. People who missed this clinic can obtain flu shots at most medical clinics and pharmacies.
  • Everett: Flu shots were available on campus Oct. 4. People who missed this clinic can obtain flu shots at most medical clinics and pharmacies.

The cost for vaccination is usually fully covered by most insurance plans and no appointment is necessary.

More information about this year’s flu shots is available from Health and Wellness Services. For information about insurance coverage, check your insurance providers website.
