April 25: Memorial service for employee Charles E. Royce

RoycePULLMAN, Wash. – A memorial service to celebrate the life of Charles E. (Chuck) Royce will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at the First Presbyterian Church in Moscow, Idaho, with a reception at the church following. Pastor Scott Kinder-Pyle will officiate.

Chuck Royce passed away at his home Thursday, April 16, 2015 after a heroic fight with cancer. He was 55. He worked in veterinary clinical sciences at Washington State University since 1987.

From his colleagues at the WSU vet med Biomedical Communications Unit: Chuck was a dear coworker and friend who invested over 27 years of faithful work into the BCU and WSU community. He was known for his photography and large format printing, whether scientific photos, posters in the CUB and UREC or bridge banners advertising WSU events. He is greatly missed in BCU.

From his obituary: He was born Dec. 20, 1959 in Cottonwood, Ariz. He grew up and went to school in Tucson, graduating from Tucson High School. He enjoyed working at his grandpa’s camera store throughout high school, expanding on his passion and experience in photography.

In 1978, Chuck joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a radar operator for two years. Due to an accident, he was medically retired in 1980. Following his discharge in Bremerton, Wash., he attended Bellevue Community College, graduating with an associate of arts degree in photography.

He began working in 1987 at WSU where he met the love of his life, Sharon. They dated for four years and were married on Kamiak Butte on July 10, 1993. Chuck was a devoted and loving father to David, Sandra and Carly.

He was the photography supervisor in BCU at the time of his death. In his 27 years with BCU, Chuck embraced his coworkers and everyone who entered the door with a smile, good humor and the highest quality of service.

Chuck was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and enjoyed watching sports, hunting, fishing, traveling, photography and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Ennis) Royce. Also surviving are his daughters, Sandra (Jess) Izzo of Viola and Carly Royce of Seattle; his mother, Jane (Glenn) Juell of Tucson; sisters, Claudia Jane Anderson of San Diego and Heather (Rodney) Carlson in Tucson; brothers, David (Aimee) Juell and Paul (Antonella) Juell both in Tucson; and grandchildren, Emily, Tyson and Jase. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Royce, Sr., and a son, David Spratling.

Per Chuck’s request, donations may be made to the local Gentiva Hospice.
