Murrow News 8, students land top journalism honors
PULLMAN, Wash. – Twelve students from The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University recently earned top awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, Region 10.
The students are among the top three in their respective categories but will not know whether they placed first, second or third until the award ceremony in May. Murrow News 8 is a finalist for the Best All-Around Television Newscast.
“Once again, Murrow students have demonstrated their skill and expertise is unmatched -whether reporting from the Palouse or from the other side of the world,” said Lawrence Pintak, Murrow founding dean. “We couldn’t be more excited for them and for our program.”
The competition honors the best journalism from students at large universities in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. First-place winners will move on to national competition.
Murrow awardees were recognized for a variety of stories, including investigative journalism, an economic feature about organic farming and a TV report from Sri Lanka.
Along with the Murrow students, four WSU students who work for The Daily Evergreen, the student newspaper, were recognized as finalists and The Evergreen was nominated for Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper.
