WSU News enewsletter returns; website rebuilding under way

PULLMAN, Wash. – The server hosting the WSU News, WSU Calendar and WSU Announcements websites incurred technical problems on Monday, Sept. 23, and was taken offline.

WSUNews150pxsAfter lengthy scanning and analyzing, leaders from University Communications, Information Services, and Administrative Services Information Systems, jointly decided to keep the servers offline and to replace the content management system (CMS) for these websites with WordPress.

The original decision to move to WordPress was announced last spring, with plans to gradually make the transition in January 2014. However, last week’s problems caused administrators to accelerated those plans and begin moving to the three news-related sites to the WordPress platform immediately.

The URL address for the WSU News website remains the same at http://archive.news.wsu.edu. However, the website is being launched in a simple format, with expansion and development to continue over the next several months.

As previously was true, selected news articles also are being posted on social media sites, including:

The University Communications web and news teams also are working rapidly to bring the WSU Calendar and WSU Announcements websites back on line and to restore the system’s news archive, however, this might take several weeks.

In the interim, the WSU News staff will continue to post new news articles and send news releases to the media.

WSU News expects to emerge from this challenge with a more stable and efficient website and CMS system, through which to serve faculty, students and staff.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we rebuild these three essential news websites.
