Regents approve supplemental budget requests for 2014

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Board of Regents today approved supplemental capital and operations budget requests for 2014 totaling $10.3 and $5.1 million, respectively, and accepted schematic design documents for the  e-construction of an apartment complex on WSU’s Pullman campus.
 
The Regents approved a 2014 Supplemental Operating Budget request that includes $1 million in additional program support for the University Center of North Puget Sound and $3.6 million in maintenance and operations funding through 2015 for the newly constructed, Vancouver Applied Technology Classroom Building, the Pullman Veterinary Medical Research Building, and the Spokane Riverpoint-Biomedical Health Sciences Building. A $500,000 operating budget request for matching funds in support of a WSU application for a Federal Aviation Agency-designated Center of Excellence for Aviation Jet Fuel and Environment was also approved by the Regents.
 
The 2014 Supplemental 2014 Capital Budget request approved by the Regents would provide $5.3 million to fund design of Phase 2 of the Global Animal Health Building Complex and $5 million request to make significant programmatic and modernization improvements to aging or outmoded university facilities.
 
The Regents also approved the schematic design documents for the $20 million re-construction of the Chief Joseph Village Apartments, a student housing complex which was built in the 1970s and located on the northeast side of Pullman campus near the Student Recreation Center.
In other matters, the Regents heard reports from a variety of university leaders and organizations during the meeting, including WSU President Elson S. Floyd, the Associated Students of WSU, the Graduate and Professional Student’s Organization, the Administrative Professional Advisory Council, the WSU Alumni Association and the WSU Foundation. The Regents also participated in a focus discussion with several representatives of WSU’s Greek community.
