Community service coordinator wins state award

PULLMAN, Wash. – Ryan Lazo of Washington State University is the 2017 recipient of a state award for an alumnus/a of the federal AmeriCorps volunteer service program.

The community partnerships coordinator for WSU’s Center for Civic Engagement since 2015, Lazo began his year as an AmeriCorps volunteer at CCE in 2014 coordinating the Palouse Fresh Food Project. It increases the availability of fresh food for low-income participants through service learning opportunities and community collaboration. Learn more at http://cce.wsu.edu/foodproject.

The Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards, including Lazo’s for an AmeriCorps alumnus, are presented annually by Serve Washington, the bipartisan, governor-appointed commission on national and community service.

Lazo continues to volunteer with community organizations including Friends of the Clearwater, Special Olympics and local farmers markets and food drives.
