PULLMAN, Wash. – Paul Kwon, associate professor of psychology, will receive the Washington State University 2017 Faculty Diversity Award at the Celebrating Excellence Recognition Banquet on March 31 in Pullman.

Kwon’s research emphasizes diversity issues including ethnic minorities and sexual orientation. His work focuses on resilience factors from positive psychology to help understand how sexual minorities cope with prejudice.
He has taught the WSU graduate course on diversity issues in psychology since 1996. He has been the research mentor for seven doctoral students who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual. He is a site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association, where he especially looks at how programs teach diversity in their curriculum and clinical training.
Kwon sees private practice clients one day a week, in particular clients from ethnic and sexual minority backgrounds. He has provided diversity training statewide to practitioners and supervisors in mental health, substance abuse and human services.
