PULLMAN, Wash. – A free, public showing of the documentary, “Girl Rising,” will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in CUE 203, presented by the Washington State University common reading program.
The 101-minute film, made in 2013, tells the stories of nine girls from developing countries as they overcome obstacles to get an education. It illustrates how educating girls can transform families and communities, break the cycle of poverty and change the fates of women.
“Girl Rising” (http://girlrising.com/) is directed by Academy Award-nominated Richard Robbins. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Selena Gomez and others narrate the girls’ stories.
