Deadlines Feb. 22, March 11 for leadership award

LEAD-2016-LogoPULLMAN, Wash. – Nomination and application forms are open for the 2016 Washington State University President’s Award for Leadership. Since 1996, the award has been bestowed annually to students and others who advance leadership and engagement at WSU and beyond.

Recipients demonstrate exceptional leadership and service to the university and the community or support leadership development and engagement of WSU students. Award categories are student, student group, faculty or staff and community organization.

To select the awardees, a committee of faculty, staff and students will review applicants by considering each within the framework of the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, specifically with respect to these qualities: consciousness of self, congruence, commitment, collaboration, common purpose, controversy with civility, citizenship and change.

Award recipients are eligible to apply for the $1,000 Virginia E. Thomas scholarship, and all award recipients are honored at the annual Leadership and Engagement Awards of Distinction (LEAD) ceremony on April 19.

Student nominations are due Feb. 22. Student applications and nominations for student groups, community organizations and faculty or staff are due March 11.

The LEAD event and President’s Award are presented in partnership by Student Involvement, the Center for Civic Engagement and the Associated Students of WSU.
