According to NASPA’s website, the Fred Turner Award is equivalent to a lifetime achievement award—each recipient has brought honor and dignity to the student affairs profession, and to NASPA as an association, for a sustained period of time.

Individuals nominated for this award must have demonstrated leadership in NASPA at the state, regional, national or international levels and have been a NASPA member for a minimum of ten continuous years.

Stanton Schnebly came to WSU in 1998 as a Resident Education Director and then served as GISORC’s assistant director beginning in 2002, before being named director in 2005.

Stanton Schnebly’s nomination was coordinated by Leslie Webb, NASPA Region V chair. Stanton Schnebly started an LGBT college leadership conference on the Washington State University campus in 2004 and Webb organized a similar conference at Central Washington University a few months later. Together they co-founded what is now known as the Power of One Conference, an annual NASPA Region V LGBTQA leadership conference that helps students learn about intersecting identities while promoting social justice.
