WSU-220PULLMAN, Wash. – The visitor center at Washington State University recently won a national construction award from the Forest Stewardship Council.

Designed and built by Olson Kundig Architects and Sellen Construction, the Brelsford WSU Visitor Center won for creativity and innovation for acting as “an advertisement for wood,” according to jury member Lloyd Alter.

FSC is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1993 to promote responsible forest management. It sets standards under which forests and companies are certified.

The annual awards honor designers and builders who are committed to using FSC-certified wood and creating a marketplace that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically prosperous management of the world’s forests. The awards were co-hosted with the World Wildlife Fund and Green Sports Alliance.
