Sept. 24: Conference equips those serving rural veterans

vet conference logoSPOKANE, Wash. – A free, one-day education conference for those who aid rural veterans as they transition back to civilian life will be held in Spokane on Sept. 9 and Yakima, Wash., on Sept. 24.

The training will provide information and resources to equip interested professionals and advocates to better serve veterans. Topics covered will include suicide prevention, post-traumatic stress disorder, military culture, navigating the U.S. veterans healthcare system and more.

The conference will be 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Spokane and Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Yakima Convention Center.

The conference is facilitated by the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) of Eastern Washington, part of Washington State University Extension, and funded by the U.S. Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Office of Rural Health.

The training has been approved for 6.25 continuing education units by the state chapter of the National Association of Social Workers for licensed social workers, licensed marriage & family therapists and licensed mental health counselors. Other attendees will receive a certificate of attendance for 6.25 contact hours.
