Student Employment program moves to CACD

PULLMAN, Wash.—Effective July 1, 2014, the Washington State University Student Employment program will be managed by the Center for Advising and Career Development (CACD).

The Student Employment program, which serves students who want or need to work to help finance their education and connects job seekers with open positions on and off campus, was managed previously by the Student Financial Services (SFS) office, which will retain oversight of all services relating to state and federal work study, such as determining student eligibility, processing work study authorization Forms, and making awards.

The transfer of Student Employment to CACD is expected to foster opportunities to offer more comprehensive student employment services including counseling, professional staff assistance, and key job search resources. Part of the WSU Office of Undergraduate Education, CACD is located in Lighty Student Services Building 160-180.

The transfer will also require a change in the online software system used by the university to post and respond to job postings. In the past, an online job search engine called “JobX” located on SFS’s website was used for that purpose. Both students and employers will now begin accessing the postings using “CougLink,” which located on CACD’s website at http://cacd.wsu.edu.

CACD Director Terese King said she sees many opportunities for her staff to help students in coming months to build on the skills learned through on- and off-campus employment, and to leverage those into future internships and full-time career opportunities after college.

Assistant Director Christie Motley, who oversees employer relations and heads the career services side of CACD, said counselors and professional staff are expert at assisting students in making wise and realistic career decisions and helping them be confident and competitive throughout the entire job search process.
