June 3: Bid goodbye to WSU’s tortoise amputee

tortoise-170PULLMAN, Wash. – A tortoise that has lived at Washington State University since its leg was amputated and replaced with a swiveling wheel at the College of Veterinary Medicine will be leaving for a new home.

Gamera, who has appeared on the NBC Today Show, will be an ambassador of his species and also for amputees of all makes and sizes (including humans). His new home will have lots of room to roam, with indoor and outdoor enclosures.

The WSU community is invited to say goodbye to the traveling tortoise 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in the courtyard in front of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Bring camera phones and give Gamera a treat.
